Designwerk in the fast lane: successful 2023 balance sheet and expansion in Germany

25.01.2024 – The Swiss pioneer in the field of electromobility for commercial vehicles, Designwerk Technologies AG, draws an impressive balance sheet for the year 2023. Last year, customers covered a total of 5,778,509 kilometers on battery-electric power with Designwerk’s electric trucks, resulting in a total mileage of 10,650,126 kilometers since the first delivery of a Designwerk e-truck. In a market that is constantly growing, Designwerk is positioning itself as a pioneer and is further expanding its sales structures in Germany with the recruitment of four new sales employees.

Designwerk Technologies AG closes 2023 with impressive successes. Last year, customers covered a total of 5,778,509 kilometers on battery-electric power with Designwerk’s electric commercial vehicles, resulting in a total mileage of 10,650,126 kilometers. In a market that is continuously growing, Designwerk is consolidating its position as a leading provider of the overall electromobility system for commercial vehicles. Designwerk’s portfolio includes fast-charging solutions, high-voltage storage solutions and electric trucks. Designwerk was able to continue its growth. Compared to 2022, the e-mobility specialist was able to sell 51% more e-trucks and 24% more mobile chargers. The company now employs 230 people at five locations.

Technology output also reached new heights in 2023. In the field of electric trucks, Designwerk further expanded its position as a pioneer for electromobility last year with battery capacities of up to 1000 kWh and numerous first-time electrified commercial vehicles for special applications. At the same time, the Winterthur-based company launched a new, compact mobile rapid charger with 88 kW charging power and 920 volts for flexible use. For far more demanding charging situations, Designwerk presented a battery-buffered Mega Charger at the end of the year, which will be able to charge several heavy commercial vehicles at the same time with a charging capacity of up to two Mega Watts.

Expansion after a successful 2023 financial year

To meet the growing demand, Designwerk is expanding its sales structures in Germany and welcomes four experienced sales specialists in the heavy commercial vehicle sector to its team. Joachim Schürmann was the first to join at the end of 2023 as the new Key Account Manager for the Europe North region. Jannik Winzer and Ewald Weinhold followed at the beginning of January. Together they form a strong sales team under the leadership of Fabian Bahlmann, the newly appointed Sales Director for E-Trucks Europe North. Bahlmann, who gained international management experience in the commercial vehicle industry, emphasizes: “I am looking forward to working and exchanging ideas with our partners, existing and new customers and everyone who wants to drive forward the transformation to electromobility.”

Designwerk is thus following on from last year’s expansion in Benelux and Scandinavia. The electrical specialist is thus expanding its competitiveness and positioning itself as an expert, particularly in the field of custom-made products. Designwerk’s expansion in Germany is a response to the developing market and numerous customer inquiries. “Irrespective of political decisions, we see very solid growth potential in our role as a specialist for individual solutions in the German market. We are convinced that we can meet the demand of our customers even better and strengthen our market share in the niche, regardless of the ongoing discussions about the existence of subsidy programs. The pressure for zero-emission vehicles is increasing – and we are prepared for this,” summarizes Thomas Rücker, Director Sales and After Sales.
