TheCO2 tax has been in force in Germany since 2021. Among other things, it taxes the use of fossil fuels such as diesel and petrol. Companies must purchase emission certificates that are linked to the placing of fuels on the market rather than their consumption. Companies are allowed to sell one ton ofCO2 per certificate. The levies for one tonne of fossil fuels increase annually. While €25 per tonne ofCO2 was still due in 2021, it will be €55 from 2025.
