When charging an electric vehicle, a distinction is made between AC and DC charging stations. The battery of an electric vehicle can normally only accept DC (direct current). This means that AC (alternating current) from the power grid must be converted beforehand. If this conversion takes place via the on-board charger in the vehicle, it is referred to as AC charging.
