What are the advantages of electric trucks?

If you compare diesel and electric trucks, you can already see many advantages of electric commercial vehicles:

  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO):CO2 taxes, as well as fossil fuel costs, are increasing across Europe. Countries, such as Germany, offer discounts on toll systems for Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV).
  • Sustainability: Fossil-free transport solutions, such as e-truck, save significantly onCO2. Depending on the country and the electricity mix, this saves enormous amounts of greenhouse gases. An average diesel truck (42-ton, 120,000 kilometers per year) consumes 74 percent moreCO2 over the life of the vehicle, using a Swiss electricity mix, than a Designwerk electric truck.
  • Noise pollution: Electric trucks have lower noise emissions than diesel trucks. This means they are a lot quieter in traffic, much like electric cars.
  • City traffic: Electric trucks are quieter than diesel trucks. This creates new opportunities for the logistics industry, as e-truck can thus also run at off-peak times due to the noise savings. Shifting the loading and unloading times saves time, especially in the inner city. In addition, environmental zones, such as those in Germany, do not play a role for electric trucks.
  • Recuperation: Electric vehicles, including electric trucks, have a special feature. You can generate electricity while driving and thus replenish the battery. Motors convert electrical energy into kinetic energy. Battery electric-powered vehicles have the ability to act as a generator and can retain kinetic energy and recuperate energy through a regenerative braking system.
