Designwerk honored with prestigious Red Dot Design Award

June 21, 2023 – Electromobility specialist Designwerk has won the Red Dot Design Award in the Product Design 2023 category. The award was given for the third generation of mobile fast chargers. The chargers convinced the jury with their compact construction, flexible handling and minimalist design. The award underscores the company’s consistent development and production of innovative as well as clever solutions for electromobility.

The Swiss electromobility specialist Designwerk has received a significant award. The company is pleased to announce that it has won the Red Dot Design Award in the Product Design 2023 category. The award may be marked as a milestone for Designwerk, so it is the first recognition in the design field for the company. The prize was awarded for the third generation of the Mobile Charger 44-920 and Mobile Charger 22-500 mobile fast chargers.

International seal for outstanding design quality
With around 20,000 entries each year, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. With a history spanning more than 60 years, the “Red Dot” stands for an international seal of design excellence. 2023 entries were judged by 43 judges in 51 competition categories. The decisions were based on an evaluation catalog for good design as well as the technical focus and design expertise of the jury. Aspects such as function, appealing aesthetics, ease of use, and product durability were considered.

Designwerk convinced the jury with the third generation of the mobile fast chargers Mobile Charger 44-920 and Mobile Charger 22-500. The minimalist white casing gives the devices a sculptural form and stands for clean mobility. In showrooms and development departments of vehicle manufacturers, the devices are therefore more than just infrastructure.

The Mobile Chargers from Designwerk are used in the environment of development departments, workshops as well as at events. With a voltage range of 250 to 1000 volts, they allow fast charging from small electric vehicles to large electric trucks. The interchangeable cable system allows switching between all charging standards available on the market. The chargers are operated via industrial sockets, so no additional installation work is required.

Due to the high power density – the Designwerk Mobile Chargers are almost half the size and half the weight of competitor products with identical performance data – the devices can be easily used on a trolley. Thus, one Mobile Charger can replace several fixed installations. Wall or floor mounting is still possible.

Combination of multi-layered design and solid engineering honored
The Mobile Chargers are complicated devices in terms of design. The design achievement was to find a simple, reduced form for the technically complex requirements: The electronics were arranged around the heart, the device cooling. During fast charging, air is drawn in through the air inlets on the lid, the cooling tunnel ensures heat exchange, and the warm air is discharged again through the inlets on the base.
