New registrations of battery-electric heavy trucks in the EU will increase in the first half of 2024 New registrations of battery-electric heavy trucks in the EU will increase in the first half of 202417.09.2024 – In the first half of 2024, more than 55% more battery-electric heavy trucks were registered in the European Union compared to the same period last year. In the same period, new registrations in the alternative drive categories of hybrid electric, hydrogen, natural gas, LPG and E85 fell by up to 77 percent. This is according to official statistics from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). This can be seen as a clear signal as to which alternative drive type the market is opting for. A total of 1,707 vehicles with battery electric drivetrains were registered across the EU in the first half of the year. The figures in the D-A-CH region were particularly positive. Germany was clearly in the lead with 579 new e-truck registrations. However, Austria dominated the pan-European statistics with an increase of 347% compared to the previous year. How are these figures to be understood? Around 1,700 new e-truck registrations are a small proportion of a total of 151,358 newly registered trucks in the EU. The market share of battery-electric drives in the heavy truck class is therefore just under 2% in the first half of 2024. That doesn’t sound like much, but it gives hope for more. The halt to the KsNI program to promote climate-friendly vehicles in Germany has certainly dampened the initial e-mobility upswing for commercial vehicles. It is not yet clear whether this measure will take full effect in the second half of the year and slow down growth. After the initial shock, the voices in the market are positive. More and more transport companies are reporting the positive financial effect on operating costs, the improved image among customers and the satisfaction of e-truck drivers. Ultimately, a clearly calculated total cost calculation is convincing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. CONTACT US Antonia Robaina2025-02-19T10:45:20+01:00
