Designwerk e-trucks drive for BMW and Mercedes Benz Two of Germany’s largest car manufacturers rely on Designwerk e-trucks for sustainable logistics19.11.2024 – At Designwerk, we are continuously working on the development of emission-free and high-performance solutions for logistics with special requirements. We are therefore all the more pleased that two of Germany’s largest car manufacturers, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, are relying on our fully electric trucks to make their logistics chains more sustainable. BMW uses unique Designwerk E-Lowliner for emission-free plant transportation in Leipzig The BMW Group recently started using “DW-electric” transportation with the Rudolph Logistics Group, relying on two battery-electric lowliners from Designwerk Technologies AG. This was made possible by our partner Greiwing Truck & Trailer, which rents out Designwerk e-trucks. These fully electric e-trucks deliver parts and components from the logistics warehouse to high-voltage battery production at the BMW plant in Leipzig – and they are the first electric volume transporters with a lithium ferrophosphate battery system (LFP). The installed battery capacity of 340 kilowatt hours (kWh) with a range of up to 250 kilometers is ideal for plant traffic. Thanks to the LFP cell technology, up to 3,000 charging cycles are possible. This exceptionally high cycle stability enables mileages of up to 850,000 kilometers. Numerous of our customers have recognized the advantages of the MID CAB Semi Lowliner 4x2T for their volume transports: The lowered design with a nominal fifth wheel height from 912 mm in driving mode allows the use of mega trailers with a clear loading height of up to three metres, so that up to 50% more of the standardized parts carriers can be transported. The E-Semi Lowliner 4x2T is one of our Designwerk specialties that you won’t find in this form from major manufacturers. Mercedes-Benz relies on Designwerk e-truck with a range of almost 700 kilometers Mercedes-Benz is also benefiting from the advantages of the Designwerk e-truck: in cooperation with the logistics company Galliker Transport AG, a battery-powered MID CAB Car Carrier 6x2R car transporter is being used. Equipped with an impressive battery capacity of 1,000 kWh, the vehicle has a loaded range of up to 695 kilometers without a trailer and 580 kilometers with a trailer. These ranges make it possible to reliably cover the distance of around 270 kilometers between the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen and the Galliker logistics center in Altishofen, Switzerland, with zero emissions. The vehicle is one of over 20 Designwerk Car Carriers that are currently delivering cars electrically. Galliker Transport AG alone operates 16 of these vehicles. The MID CAB Car Carrier is designed to transport up to seven vehicles. With a telescopic drawbar that can extend the basic length by one meter, the vehicle creates additional space on the lower level of the trailer, allowing even large vehicles to be transported efficiently and safely. This customized solution is another important step towards reducing CO₂ emissions and making logistics more sustainable. Designwerk – Partner for sustainable logistics solutions The partnerships with BMW and Mercedes-Benz confirm that Designwerk is valued as a reliable partner for emission-free logistics solutions in the automotive industry. With tailor-made, durable and highly efficient electric trucks, we offer manufacturers the opportunity to consistently pursue their sustainability goals and realize future-proof logistics. We are proud to play an active role in shaping the mobility transition and look forward to taking further steps on the road to climate-neutral logistics.
