First fully electric snow groomer in use on Flumserberg

14.03.2024 – Sustainability put to the test. In mid-February, the Flumserberg Tourism Association organized a media event at which Switzerland’s first fully electric snow groomer was presented. The Swiss premiere has been undergoing field tests since December 2023 in collaboration with the Flumserberg mountain railroads and the snow groomer manufacturer Prinoth. Designwerk Technologies AG supplies the right mobile charger. This charges the snow groomer in just under two hours.

Cross-country skiing and winter hiking are always popular. In order to prepare the trails more efficiently and sustainably, the organizers of Flumserberg Tourism decided to replace their old snow groomer with a new, fully electric model. Electric snow groomers are still a rarity in ski resorts. The electrification of these vehicles poses major technical challenges that make implementation demanding. In the snow groomer manufacturer Prinoth, Flumserberg Tourismus has found a competent and innovative partner that offers the first fully electric snow groomer to be produced in series to date. This has now been in use on the Flumserberg since December and is being tested in operation.

Charging time reduced to just under two hours

Snow groomers move heavy loads such as snow over long distances and work in difficult terrain. Low temperatures, snow and steep inclines place high demands not only on the vehicle. The energy supply must also be able to cope with the adverse conditions. This is where Designwerk Technologies AG comes into play. “We are delighted to be working with Designwerk, an innovative company from Winterthur, to test the first mobile fast charging station with 88 kW over the next few days. This is also a Swiss premiere,” says Rolf Blumer, Managing Director of Flumserberg Tourismus. “Thanks to this fast charging station, the charging time can be reduced to just under two hours and the mobile solution has a positive effect on the grooming sequence and time management.” A Designwerk Mobile Charger 88-920 is used, which also charges the snow groomer outdoors with an unrivaled continuous charging capacity of 84 kW and 1000 volts. Thanks to its compact design, the device can be used flexibly wherever it is needed. The Designwerk charging technology team is looking forward to the upcoming tests.
